'Mock rape' photo unjustifiable: NGO
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
A gender equality organisation says there is no justifiable reason for a group of Hilton College boys to pose for and circulate an apparent mock rape photo.
The image caused outrage on social media yesterday. You can view the image here.
The Sonke Gender Justice Network says the picture makes a mockery of a serious issue facing the country.
Spokesperson Mbuyiselo Botha says the country should not condone their actions.
''We can't even for one moment fold our arms and think that this act is a normal thing to do because then this shows how our society is structured or regards rape.
''This can't be regarded as something normal. In fact we should all be horrified by this act and should all register how unpleasant such sexist jokes are in our country,'' he said.
Management at Hilton in the Midlands says its appalled by the photo and is investigating the matter.
