Mkhwebane's candidature gets Parliament's support
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Political parties have backed Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane to replace Thuli Madonsela as Public Protector.

Parties in the National Assembly said yesterday Mkhwebane should be given a chance to do the job. She received 263 votes in her favour.
The chairperson of the committee that interviewed candidates, Makhosi Khoza says women were more than equally represented in the selection process.

"We were very proud because out of the 14 that we initially shortlisted, eight of them were women. They were not there because of their gender orientation, they were there on merit. It is therefore my pleasure to state that this committee is recommending to this house Advocate Busisiwe Joyce Mkhwebane to the president for the appointment of Public Protector," she said.
The DA said it could not support her nomination - questioning her experience for the job among other things.
Mkhwebane beat five shortlisted candidates after facing a gruelling interview process.
