Mkhwebane is trying to step out of Madonsela's shadow: analyst

A political analyst feels that new Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane has been living in Madonsela's shadow - stating her attempts to stand apart from her legacy can be seen in the charges laid against her predecessor.

The charge follows a complaint by President Jacob Zuma over the 'leaking' of Madonsela's interview with him on the state capture report.

The Sunday Times reported that the charges were laid at the Brooklyn police station in Pretoria.

Analyst Imraan Buccus says this gives insights into how leadership battles are handled in this country.

"One almost empathises with Mkhwebane. In some way she is trying to carve out the niche for herself. She has very much often been living in Madonsela's shadow. This perhaps is a chance for her to step out of Madonsela's shadow. Another critical question we can ask is what kind of relief is the President seeking from all of this," he said.

Former ANC MP, Vytjie Mentor has dismissed reports that she laid a complaint against Madonsela.

This after media reports stated Mentor lodged a complaint over the release of the interview in the state of capture investigations.

On a Facebook post, the former MP has labelled the new Public Protector a liar - saying she would approach the bar-council.
