Mkhambathini mayor wants more focus on smaller tourist destinations
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The mayor of Mkhambathini says smaller municipalities also have the potential to become tourism destinations of choice.

The municipality recently set aside two days for a tourism seminar as part of efforts to increase exposure around the wonders Mkhambathini has to offer during Tourism Month in September.
Mkhambathini Mayor Nhlakanipho Ntombela says the two-day seminar brought together key stakeholders such as tourism businesses and civil society organisations.

Ntombela says they are banking on tourism to put them further on the map.
"You know Mkhambathini is situated between Durban and Pietermaritzburg. It's where now there is a development. So, in terms of tourism, it’s where we see that we are lacking.
"We have a beautiful mountain - our landscape, we have a table mountain, and we have a big hole. The community on that side said it's a bad hole, so we put tourism at the centre of our economic development."
