MK party hails Electoral Court ruling on Zuma as ‘major victory’
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
The uMkhonto weSizwe party says Tuesday's Electoral Court ruling is a major victory for the party ahead of the May 29 elections.
The court allowed former president Jacob Zuma to contest the elections.
It set aside the Electoral Commission's objection against Zuma's candidacy to become a member of parliament for the uMkhonto weSizwe party.
This means that Zuma's name will appear on the MK party's list of candidates who are eligible to contest the polls.

Legal expert Paul Hoffman feels the IEC should not have barred Zuma from throwing his hat in the ring.
"The sentence the Constitutional Court imposed on former President Zuma was not the kind of sentence considered when Section 47 of the Constitution was drafted.
“So, it’s correct that he is eligible to stand, and it is to be hoped that the IEC will accept the judgment of the Electoral Court."
Meanwhile, the IEC says it's seeking legal advice and will ask the court for reasons for its decision.
