The MK party secured 37 out of the 80 seats in the KZN Legislature.

The IEC released the provincial results of the general elections at the ICC in Durban last night.

The Electoral Commission says the people of KZN contributed more than 3.5 million votes.

The province had the highest voter turnout in the country at 61.7 percent.

The MK Party secured approximately 1.5 million votes, which account for almost 46 percent of the provincial ballots.

The IFP holds 18 percent of the votes, the ANC 17 percent, the DA has almost 14 percent and the EFF garnered close to 3 percent.

How does this translate into seats in the KZN legislature?

With 37 seats, the MK party has taken the lion's share, followed by the IFP with 15.

The ANC's got 14 seats, the DA 11, the EFF two, and the NFP's received one.

The IEC says more than 39 000 votes were spoilt.

On the regional ballot, KZN contributed to the MK party's 19 seats in the National Assembly. The vote handed the IFP eight seats, the ANC seven and the DA six.

On the national ballot in KZN, the MK party came out on top again scooping almost 46 percent of the votes. The ANC was given close to 19 percent and the IFP 17 percent.

In parliament, the ANC has lost 71 seats but still has the most at 159. The DA has clinched 87 seats and the Umkhonto we Sizwe party 58 seats.

At the ICC, political parties remained mum on coalition talks with no outright majority in KZN, or the country.
