Miners' safety must be prioritised: Amcu
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
Mining union Amcu believes that even though this isn't the time to pass blame, Lily Mine was a disaster waiting to happen.

Today marks day 11 since Pretty Nkambule, Solomon Nyerende and Yvonne Mnisi were stuck inside a container underground after a cave-in at the mine.

There's been three collapses since the disaster two Fridays ago with the last being on Sunday night. Search and rescue efforts have been suspended until it's safe to resume.
Amcu spokesperson Manzini Zungu says mine safety should be a priority.
"We call on the government to make sure that the law is protecting the people that are poor that go to mines to look for income. You look at the young lady that is 23 years old that is trapped underground.
"Under normal circumstances that young woman would have been at a university finishing her degree. It is sad that our people have no other means but to go to these mines," he said.
