Updated | By Nondumiso Dube
Communities, north of Durban, say Midway Crossing shopping centre couldn't have come at a better time.
The centre, located in the heart of Newlands, opens its doors on Thursday.
eThekwini Municipality says the three-storey complex also boasts a municipal services level and will connect six communities.
An Ntuzuma resident says it will provide people with much-needed employment opportunities.
"This is really going to help our community in a lot of ways not just Ntuzuma, but Inanda, KwaMashu, Newlands and Clermont."
"All the things that we need are closer now, because after the looting at Bridge City now we have a new place to go to.
"It's going to help with youth with jobs because a lot of people have lost their jobs not just with Covid but with also looting. There were a lot of stores that were closed."
The R980 million project has been years in the making
