Midlands woman arrested after baby's body found

KwaZulu-Natal detectives have arrested a 23-year-old woman who allegedly dumped her new-born baby in a pit latrine in Impendle.

Police spokesperson, Thulani Zwane says the body of the baby was recovered by officers from the Pietermaritzburg search and rescue on Sunday night.
"They received information that there was a newborn baby thrown into a pit toilet in Mpendle. On their arrival, they managed to rescue the body and it was taken to the police for further investigation," Zwane said.

Zwane says the woman is appearing in court today on a charge of concealment of birth.
