Midlands townhall dwellers living in squalor wants to be moved
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Around 50 people, who're being housed at a municipal hall in the Midlands, say they're tired of living in squalor and want to be moved.

They were moved to the venue in Mpofana Local Municipality when their Bruntville Hostel burnt down in 2015.
Resident Sphamanda Ndlovu says they've been sharing two bathroom facilities and don't have a proper kitchen and beds.
"Any other days I've got no electricity, you lock the electricity, you lock the water and toilet. It's not good. It is bad in fact.
Townhall as such, it's not clean, it's too dirty," said Ndlovu.

Meanwhile, the DA in KZN has written to the Department of Human Settlements, to find out when the residents will be allocated suitable accommodation.
Spokesperson Martin Meyer says it's been ordered to do so by a court.
"There is ground money available for emergency housing in cases like this and we need to find out why has this money not been made available to this municipality and why has housing not been provided and people are forced to live in this deplorable condition."
