Midlands police officer faces murder charge

A police constable stationed at Boston SAPS in the Midlands, has handed himself over to authorities after a 20-year-old man was shot and killed this past weekend.
Police Investigative Directorate, the IPID, says Siyanda Mshengu was one of two men walking away from a tarvern they'd visited in the Mafakatini area early on Saturday morning.
"They saw a vehicle - a Toyota Avanza - driven by a person known to them. One of the men called out the name of the driver asking for a lift. On the passenger's side, there was a police officer. He got out and spoke to one of the men who had requested a lift.
"All of a sudden, a gunshot went off. It's alleged that the policeman rushed to the driver of the vehicle and told him that they had to leave as he had killed a boy accidentally. He told the driver to take him to the police station but then absconded," Mshengu said.
