‘Our potable water is safe for consumption’ - Mhlathuze Water on dead fish scare
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Mhlathuze Water is trying to establish what led to the death of dozens of fish found floating at its Nsezi Weir.

Spokesperson Siyabonga Maphumulo confirmed that, so far, preliminary tests by scientists have shown that raw water from the Mhlathuze River system remains safe.
"We have also sent samples of the dead fish to the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) for further testing in order to determine the cause of their death," the entity said in a statement.
As a precaution the utility has decided to stop abstracting water from the river and are now drawing from the Nsezi Lake.
"All our treated potable water remains safe for human consumption. The incident has also been reported to the relevant authorities," it read.
The public has been urged to not collect the dead fish or engage in any fishing activities in the Mhlathuze River for now.
