Updated | By ECR Newswatch
A Metro Police officer is fighting for his life in hospital after being shot in the mouth and right arm while monitoring a service delivery protest along the M25 near Bhambayi Road in Inanda, north of Durban.
Protestors blocked the road with stones and burning tyres this morning. A bus was also set on fire.
SAPS spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says officers are still in the area monitoring the situation.
"A case of attempted murder and the malicious damage to property was opened for investigation at Inanda SAPS. No arrests have been made."
Dozens of people were reportedly injured when they clashed with police in protests against newly elected councillors.
The protests continue to rage in Inanda, kwamashu, and Maoti, north of Durban.
