They say the issue has been going on for several years but over the past few years it's become worse.

Bashnie Govender, who has lived there for just over 30 years, says it's become a norm for the park next to her home to be flooded with raw sewerage.

She says, as a chronically ill elderly woman, she is worried about her health.

"They will send those people here they will send them out with the wrong stuff. They will be poorly equipped. Then they send out people that don't even know what they are doing. They will ask me where is the collections or  where is the outlet. It's unbearable out here. It's raw sewer, my yard is flooded.”

A resident of Ward 75, who asked not to be named, says he has been experiencing sewerage issues since purchasing his property in 2012.

He says it is now got to a point where sewerage content backs up into his shower frequently.

"It's gone to an extent where it comes up in my shower. Basically, I'm getting all the sewerage coming up in my shower. That's the embarrassing thing. I've got to take a long pipe, from there, I've got to push everything into the sewer and try and get it out and I'm doing this like maybe twice a week.”

Meanwhile, DA ward councillor Sithembiso Ngema says what makes the situation frustrating is that the city continues to show disregard while their complaints intensify.

"Even if you tell them that there is a problem, they will tell you that they will investigate that. But you will never ever get the report back after the investigation. You will even find out that the investigation wasn't even started from the beginning, so you can see now clearly that the municipality and its leadership don't care.”
