Family members, traditional leaders and National Freedom Party (NFP) supporters have gathered in Ulundi, in northern KZN, to pay tribute to party leader Zanele KaMagwaza-Msibi.
KaMagwaza-Msibi passed away on Monday at the age of 59.
She'd suffered a cardiac arrest.
NFP and family spokesperson Canaan Mdletshe says, due to Covid-19 lockdown regulations, a maximum of 100 guests have been allowed to attend the memorial service.
The service is said to begin at 10am on Thursday morning.
He says KaMagwaza-Msibi's children are struggling to come to terms with their mother's death.
"KaMagwaza-Msibi might be a leader to us as members of the organisation, but to her family, she was a mother, sister, daughter and grandmother. She left a very young grandchild and it's devastating.
"The family is hurt, emotions are high. You can see and touch the sadness. In particular, KaMagwaza-Msibi's daughter Gugu is devastated."
KaMagwaza-Msibi's funeral will be held on Saturday in Ulundi.
