Memorial service for Sharks Board crew members

A Sharks Board employee is still missing at sea - four days after he disappeared following a boat accident in Richards Bay.

Siyabonga Gabela had been aboard the Typus lll with four other crew members checking shark safety gear when their boat capsized off Newark Beach. Two of his colleagues drowned and two others were injured. 


A police search and rescue team is expected to continue the search for Gabela today. KZN Sharks Board CEO, Mthokozisi Radebe, says the two crew members who were rescue have been discharged from hospital. 


He says they will hold a memorial service for the two men who've died later as well.


"The search is still ongoing as we have not recovered him as yet. I have been advised by the family that the funeral will be next week Saturday", he said.


"Before then the Sharks Board will hold a joint memorial service for our departed colleagues", Radebe said.
