Memorial service for Boksburg blast victims to be held on Friday
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
A memorial service to honour the 27 people who lost their lives in a gas tank truck explosion in Boksburg will be held on Friday morning.
A massive blast went off after the truck jammed under a bridge and started leaking on Christmas Eve.
Ten people, including children, were declared dead at the scene but the number has since almost tripled.
There was also extensive infrastructure damage to the nearby Tambo Memorial Hospital and surrounding areas.
The memorial will be held by the Gauteng provincial government.

Health Department spokesperson Motalatale Modiba says families and government officials are expected to attend.
"The memorial is aimed at reflecting at what has happened but also to honour the lives that have been lost during the period and to pray for those who are still in hospital for a speedy recovery.
"We have been through a lot in the past week as families try to pull themselves together and the support from society has been really great."
Meanwhile, the 32-year-old driver of the truck was released from custody due to a lack of evidence this week.
