Memorial service held for Lakehaven fire victims

Family and friends have gathered at Rivers Church in Durban to pay their respects at the memorial service of the eight boys who died at the Lakehaven Child and Youth Care Centre earlier this month.
It's a somber mood at Rivers Church where peers of those who lost their lives are consoling each other. Eight bouquets line the stage honoring the eight who were killed on the morning of July 14.
Giving opening remarks at the memorial, Pastors have said that the entire church and child welfare community is still coming to terms with the incident and its impact.
Executive Director of Child Welfare for the Durban District Shehnaaz Gabru, Social Development MEC Weziwe Thusi and eThekwini Mayor James Nxumalo are amongst those addressing the service while learners from Lakehaven Secondary School and Burnwood Secondary School will give their tributes throughout the service.
