Medics recover child's body from pit toilet near KwaDukuza
Updated | By Lethiwe Mdluli
A four-year-old girl has drowned in a pit latrine while playing outside near KwaDukuza on the north coast.
IPSS Medical Rescue's Paul Herbst says emergency services initially thought they were responding to a double drowning incident in the Groutville area.
"It is believed the child had fallen inside a pit latrine outside the house. The body was retrieved and handed over to the KwaDukuza SAPS. The second child that was playing with the first child was found in the house, hiding underneath the bed," he says.
Authorities are investigating the exact circumstances leading up to the drowning.
