Medic goes above and beyond to rescue kitten from drain in Tongaat
Updated | By Bernadette Wicks
Not all of local paramedic Shaun Paul's patients have two legs.

The Netcare 911 staffer was on Friday night called on to assist a kitten that had got stuck in a storm water drain - two metres underground - in Tongaat, on the North Coast.
Spokesperson for Netcare 911, Shawn Herbst, says Paul was driving in Trurolands when he was flagged down by two children on the side of the road.
"Shaun drove to the location given to investigate and found a small kitten meowing in distress some two meters down the storm water drain. With the improvisation of some rescue equipment, Shaun managed to safely extract the sopping wet and cold kitten from the drain who by that stage was to exhausted to even resist. Shaun covered the kitten in a towel to keep him warm and offered the kitty some water to try and hydrate the visibly traumatized feline," Herbst says.
The kitten was handed over to an animal shelter in Ballito where it's now recovering.
