MEC urges Isithebe protestors to refrain from damaging property

Close to 90 000 workers could be left without any income as factories in Isithebe close due to violent protests.
Residents have been protesting since Sunday over unhappiness with the councillor nomination process and an Indian appointed three weeks ago in the area.
Anger in the community has been fuelled by the fact that the 120 people arrested during these protests who had meant to appear in the Nyoni Magistrate's Court were moved to the eShowe Magistrate's court due to space at the court.
MEC for Economic Development Mike Mabuyakhulu earlier addressed the media.
"Both provincial and local leadership are intervening in dealing with the issues which are the source of anger and frustration. We are urging people to restrain and not damage these factories any further," he said.
The situation is still volatile in the area.
