MEC: KZN among provinces with high medico-legal claims
KZN remains one of the provinces that are heavily affected by a high medico-legal claims bill.
That's according to Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu who says in the 2020/21 financial year they received 327 new claims.
Simelane-Zulu was delivering her budget vote yesterday.
She says they have established a Medico-legal Directorate to help reduce the province's expenditure.
"It has come to light that there are some unscrupulous legal practitioners who have sought to defraud the system", Simelane-Zulu said.
"We are there instituting an institution that will scrutinise whether monies paid out by the department of the years have indeed been used for what they have been paid out for", she said.
