Mchunu denies interfering in appointment of Umgeni Water CEO
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
The Department of Water and Sanitation has denied allegations that Minister Senzo Mchunu interfered in the process to appoint a new CEO at Umgeni Water.
A former Umgeni board member made the claim.
Visvin Reddy was on the board that was dissolved last week following what he says was the outcome of a forensic investigation commissioned by Mchunu.
This after allegations of reckless spending emerged during the process to appoint a new CEO.

Reddy says not all members of the previous board were given the opportunity to respond to the claims.
Mchunu's already named an interim board.
"This is exactly what is happing with other SOEs in the country and I will not allow that. I will use the court to ensure that there is finally justice and that another SOE does not get turned into a rubbish heap like every other SEO on the country," says Reddy."
Meanwhile, the Water Department says it notes Reddy's response and insists the report was made available to the board.
