The student who advocates for free education is calling for a second exam sitting for students who feel they can get better marks.

"It will be a failure if our people are forced to write exams under these conditions, under torture. Our people are not psychologically ready. We are now making a call to the university...before the day ends today, they must announce two sittings. Otherwise daai poppe sal dans [heads will roll]," says Dlamini.

Dlamini - who was arrested on the Wits campus following violent clashes - is out on bail after spending three weeks behind bars.

He is facing charges of public violence, theft, malicious damage to property and assault.

A local Fees Must Fall activist and UKZN PMB campus student Star Dlamini believes that students arrested during the fees protests have been given the short end of the stick by the country's judicial system.

"Inasmuch as everyone is guaranteed a right in the so-called Bill of Rights. How do you then get access to the Bill of Rights. It means that you must have money to afford a good lawyer. You can get a good lawyer sometimes. It doesn't matter what the lawyer is going to argue whatsoever but the magistrate knows to deny these people bail," he said.
