Three men who provided protection to Mandeni Mayor, Siphesihle Zulu, are appearing in court after their arrest last week.

Four pistols, a rifle and live rounds of ammunition were confiscated from them.

The firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to establish whether they had been used in a crime.

The men were employed by the same security company as the two bodyguards who were fired for showing off their guns in a video that went viral two weeks ago.

Police Ministerial Spokesperson, Vuyo Mhaga says Mbalula wants answers from the Private Security Industry Regulatory body (PSIRA).

"What is concerning is that these three bodyguards were guarding the mayor of eMandeni Local Municipality - but also belong to the same company of the two gentleman who were wielding guns on social media. The minister has called PSIRA to really check this company and give a report as to why their employees have illegal firearms," he says.
