Updated | By Lauren Beukes
ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula has acknowledged that if problems like the ones wreaking havoc at Eskom are not solved, South Africa could head in the direction of becoming a failed state.
But he insists we are not there yet.
Mbalula's appeared on the BBC's HARDtalk programme, where he was grilled on our power crisis and corruption.
He said like every other country, South Africa has challenges.

"It comes from the pockets of powerful thinkers in the country who project us as displaying characteristics of a failed state.
"Of course, we may not be too defensive to that if certain things are not resolved, we will become a failed state, but we are not journeying in that direction."
He also pulled no punches on the electricity crisis.
"Load shedding has just made a mess of our country. It is an Achilles heel."
