Mbalula denies the allegation that he asked for R500 million and has instead filed a charge of crimen injuria at the Sandton police station on Thursday morning.

"In responding to this, we have decided to open a case and also take a step legally, So I’m here with my legal team,” Mbalula said.

Mdwaba linked the ministers of Labour, Higher Education and Finance to his allegations, claiming the so-called "gateway fees" were the proceeds of an R500 million deal his company received to kick-start a UIF job creation project.

Mbalula said he knows Mdwaba but denied any dealings with him.

"I have never had any prior engagement with him, never ever have I spoken to anybody since I came to the office about any UIF deal.

"I was wakened by people when this man was on TV just throwing my name.

"I know Mthunzi to a point where if he says like he said, he is a member of the ANC. He knows Luthuli House. I'm there every day. He has never come there to say there is something happening with your name and the name of the ANC."
