Mayor, Education MEC discuss measures for pupils to benefit from provincial resources

eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede has announced that R4,5-million has been set aside to assist pupils from poor families.
Gumede has been speaking at the Durban ICC this morning - where the province's top 60 matrics are being honoured.
Awards will be handed out to five top performers from KZN's 12 districts.
KwaZulu Natal's achieved an overall pass rate of 69.5% - up from 61.6% in 2015.

Education MEC, Mthandeni Dlungwane, says the province's mathematics pass rate has also gone up from 33.32% in 2015, to 37.91% in 2016.
Dlungwane's also announced new changes in the curriculum - which will begin with a pilot phase in 2017.
