Mayor demands probe into suspected gas leak that left dozens sick
Updated | By Nondumiso Dube
Umhlathuze's mayor has urged local authorities to get to the bottom of Monday's suspected gas leak that left dozens of pupils at Richards Bay High School sick.
Xolani Ngwezi says preliminary investigations indicate it couldn't have emanated from the Foskor plant.
He says if this was the case, other schools in the area would've been affected as well.
"Therefore we are urging that the school and the department to conduct their own investigation to find out what exactly happened. If the department needs extra hands, in terms of human resoruces, we will be glad to assist."
More than 30 pupils were rushed to hospital after they complained they had trouble breathing.
