Thousands of matriculants are waiting anxiously for the release of their results.

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga is set to release the results of the National Senior Certificate exams on Thursday evening, while individual marks will be available on Friday.

Researcher Stacey Jacobs says the class of 2022 should be applauded for their efforts as they were forced to prepare for their final exams while contending with load shedding, flood-damaged schools and the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Equal Education reiterates that the traditional pass rate is a poor indicator of the education sector’s overall health. The overall pass rate does not reflect the true state of the education sector in South Africa because it masks conditions such as learners dropping out of the school system before their matric year, than affects learner’s outcomes before the end of their school journey.

“Whatever the outcome of the 2022 results, this should push the sector to seriously on educational quality.”
