Masondo: July unrest a result of slow economic growth

Deputy Finance Minister David Masondo says investment remains a key factor to the country's economic growth.
He was speaking at an ANC post-budget event in Sandton on Monday.
He believes the July unrest was a consequence of slow economic growth.
"The July 2021 events, you must also understand them in that context. The things that you are saying about xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals is just a reflection of the cake getting smaller and smaller. So we have got to do something about it."

He's warned that the situation could get worse if nothing is done to urgently improve our economy.
"This fight for this small cake - it may take other different forms regionalism, tribalism, racism, sexism - so we have got to do something about growing our economy."
