Mashatile urges men to help end GBV
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Deputy President Paul Mashatile has urged South African men to play a positive role in ending gender-based violence.
Mashatile highlighted the urgency of addressing the scourge, emphasising its crucial role in the country's development.
He was speaking at the launch of a programme of action under the 3rd National Men's Parliament Takuwani Riime Programme of Action 2023-2025 in Limpopo on Sunday.
"It is important that we understand violence against women as a global phenomenon, and also appreciate through concerted efforts we can bring an end to this scourge.
“We know that gender-based violence has negative impacts on the socio-economic status not only of women and girls but on men as well. Ending this scourge is therefore urgent, and critical for our development as South Africa and Africa."
The call comes ahead of the start of the 16 Days of Activism campaign for No Violence against Women and Children which begins on Saturday.
