Maritzburg grandfather stabbed to death in house robbery

The family of a KZN grandfather who was killed in a house robbery in Maritzburg says they're seeking psychological support.

Rajendra Chetty was stabbed to death at his Bombay Heights home at the weekend.
Ward councillor Rachel Soobiah says neighbours saw that the 74-year-old's door had been left open and became worried.

"It was around 16:30. So, the man lives by himself, and his family. like his granddaughter, lives across from him. And they were alerted about something that's happening in the house."
"When they entered the house, they saw these two men jump over the wall and run. So, they ran to the grandfather to check what was going on with him and if he was okay, and they found him in a pool of blood."
Soobiah says the family later realised that only his cell phone had been taken.
"We're highly traumatised, especially seeing him stabbed a number of times. They need answers as to why someone would do something like this, knowing that they stole nothing. They just stole his cell phone."
“The granddaughter is incredibly traumatised, I advised her to seek counselling to assist her."
