Maritzburg family want answers over officer's death
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
A Pietermaritzburg family is demanding justice, after a 29-year-old police officer was gunned down in Wentworth, south of Durban.
Jody Fenner was at a car show along Ogle Road on Youth Day, when he was shot, allegedly during an altercation. His friend was wounded.
The suspect, who's been arrested, is due in court soon. Fenner's cousin Mark Gokool says the family is still in shock.
"My sister called me 20 minutes later to say he had died. Apparently, he died before he got to the hospital. It's like someone hit the air out. [I said] - how could this be happening?," Fenner said.
A Wentworth councillor blames the lack of security and poor management of public events - following the killing of the young officer.

Ward 68 councillor, Aubrey Snyman says the community is sick and tired of the violence in that area.
"In our community at large, we are finding that we always get shots fired and people of course are living in a very traumatic state. They never know when it's going to happen because it just happened so suddenly," Snyman said.
