Mariannhill cop accused of murder, kidnapping to appear in court

A police officer stationed at Mariannhill is due to line up in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court on Monday.

The sergeant is accused of kidnapping and the murder of a suspect in Dassenhoek.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate launched an investigation after the suspect's body was found hidden under a storm water pipe near Camperdown.
The officer was arrested in August.
Ipid spokesperson Lizzy Suping says they expect to make more arrests as their investigation continues.

"The suspect who is now deceased was allegedly taken in for questioning by the accused officer on 21 August 2022 and never returned home.
"The accused officer is detained at the Pinetown Police Cells and will appear before the Pinetown Magistrate court tomorrow, 12 September 2022.
"IPID was assisted by the KZN Search and Rescue Dog Handler Unit, SAPS Mariannhil and the National Intervention Unit."
