Maqubela bail decision expected today
Updated | By News24
The so-called "Black Widow", Thandi Maqubela, convicted of killing her acting judge husband, will appear at the Western Cape High Court to hear the ruling on her bail application.
Maqubela was found guilty in 2013 of the murder of her husband, Western Cape High Court acting Judge Patrick Maqubela.
He was found dead on his bed in his Sea Point flat on June 5, 2009, apparently a day after saying he wanted a divorce.
She was also found guilty of forging her husband’s will and committing fraud by causing potential prejudice to his estate.
In March, she was sentenced to an effective 18 years in jail.
During her sentencing, the court said Maqubela had lacked empathy and had shown no remorse for her actions.
Judge John Murphy granted her permission to approach the Supreme Court of Appeal. Her defence indicated that she was likely to apply for bail in the meantime.
She was only granted leave to appeal her murder conviction, not her convictions for fraud and forgery.
