Mapisa-Nqakula applies for interdict to block arrest
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Embattled National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has applied for an urgent court interdict to block her arrest.
Her legal team's filed papers in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria this morning.
The speaker's facing damning allegations of corruption:
Mapisa-Nqakula maintains that she is innocent of the charges set to be brought against her.
She's also requested access to the case docket before her appearance in court.
The matter relates to a corruption and money laundering probe which zeroes in on millions of rands in bribes - Mapisa-Nqakula allegedly accepted from a military contractor - during her tenure as the Minister of Defence.
The NPA's Investigating Directorate conducted a search and seizure operation at her Johannesburg home on Tuesday.
Mapisa-Nqakula yesterday announced she was taking special leave to protect the integrity of Parliament.
