Mantashe urges media against sensationalism
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Gwede Mantashe says while he's aware there are areas in KZN where there has been political tensions and violence, the media must not exaggerate the extent of the situation.
The ANC secretary-general briefed the media in Johannesburg today on the outcomes of the party's National List Conference and the NEC meeting.
Responding to a question about whether the NEC discussed the recent violence thought to be politically-motivated in KwaZulu-Natal, he advised reporters not to generalise.
"I'm not denying that there areas in KZN where there are tensions - people are getting shot in Emalahleni, the shooting in a public meeting in Inchanga, the killing of a councillor, even [unrest] in Nongoma.
"There is confusion on whether it is taxi-related violence because of the time and environment, it will all be [categorised as] violence in the elections in KZN," he said.
