Mantashe reiterates govt plan to address load shedding

Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe has reiterated government's intention to eradicate load shedding.

Mantashe delivered the keynote address on the first day of the Mining Indaba in Cape Town.
"It is estimated that load shedding costed the economy about R1 billion per day,” he told delegates.

Stage 3 load shedding remain in effect until 4pm on Monday.
After that, Stage 4 power cuts kick in until 5am.
"What is important at this point in time is to pay attention to the decline in electricity availability and failure to attend to and address the declining electricity performance and stages of load shedding is an irritation to society and had the potential of putting society against government,” Mantashe said.
