Police say a cash van came under attack on the R66 on Monday night while travelling between Eshowe and Richards Bay.
National spokesperson, Brenda Muridili says the gang opened fire on the van causing it to come to a stop.
"The suspects pointed the guards with firearms and ordered them out of the vehicle. The vehicle was allegedly bombed, and the suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash and all the relevant role players have attended the scene to comb for evidence," she said.
