Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
KwaZulu-Natal authorities have launched a manhunt for the passenger who shot and killed a man in a moving taxi on the R74 near KwaDukuza on the north coast.
Police say yesterday's shooting appears to have been a planned attack.
Officers say the suspect was seated behind the victim when he allegedly opened fire.
The incident caused the taxi driver to stop the vehicle.
The gunman then jumped out of the taxi and into another vehicle before fleeing the scene.
IPSS Medical Rescue says the victim died at the scene before emergency services arrived.
SAPS spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says the fully laden taxi had been transporting commuters from Durban to KwaDukuza.
Gwala says no one else was hurt.
"The motive for the killing is still unknown at this stage. The victim was declared dead at the scene. A case of murder has been opened at KwaDukuza SAPS," she said.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
