The sentence covers all three counts of assault with intend to do grievous bodily harm that Manana pleaded guilty to last month.

The assault took place in August, during a night out at a Johannesburg restaurant.

Two other men who took part in the assault have also admitted guilt. Reddy says the crime committed is serious.

"The commission of the crime has changed the lives of the victims in a negative manner. The victims sustained physical injuries, felt humiliated, traumatised and embarrassed. This incident has affected them in a manner which they will have to remember and carry for the rest of their lives," he says.
