Man who filmed taxi assault video speaks

The Westville man who took a video of a woman being assaulted and shoved into a taxi in Durban says he did not intervene - as he feared for his own safety.
The 39-year-old - who spoke to Newswatch on condition of anonymity - said the assault took place around Umgeni and Millar roads yesterday morning.
The video went viral after being posted on Facebook.
In the footage, a woman is seen standing outside the minibus taxi. She is then struck on the head by a man before being bundled into the vehicle.

The witness says he and a colleague tried to approach the man.
"I tried to approach him, but when I did so he had a gun on him. So I backed away, and said the next best thing to do was take out my phone and film the incident. If you look at the video, he opened the taxi door and pushed her into the door, and when I got back with the cops - he was gone," he said.
The man says he wanted to help the woman, but couldn't do anything to assist - for fear he would be shot or injured.
KZN police say no case has been opened. Officers are appealing to the woman and witnesses to come forward.
