Man under police guard after Newcastle shooting
A 39-year-old man is due to appear in the Madadeni Magistrate's Court soon after allegedly opening fire on police officers last week.
The suspect faces charges of attempted murder.
Police say the man opened fire on officers when they responded to a complaint that someone had discharged a firearm at a house in the area.
Officers returned fire wounding the suspect in the leg. He was taken to hospital under police guard and will appear in court once discharged from hospital.
A 9mm firearm licensed to him was recovered and will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if it was used in any other crimes in the area.
