Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
A man has been shot in what appears to have been a robbery gone wrong in Verulam, north of Durban. Reaction Unit South Africa says its officers were called out just after midday, today.
“While walking along the railway line two men were accosted by two suspects. One suspect was armed with a firearm and demanded valuables from the two men,” the private security company and ambulance service’s Prem Balram says in a statement, “The victims attempted to fight off the suspects when one of them was shot in the shoulder. The suspects then fled the scene on foot without taking anything”.
Balram says the victims walked to the Verulam CBD and sought assistance from members of the public there.
He says paramedics treated one of the victims for a single gunshot wound which had entered and exited his right shoulder.
“Reaction officers conducted an extensive search for the suspects however they still remain at large,” Balram says.
Police confirm they are investigating a case of attempted murder.
