WATCH: Man rescued after falling off cliff in Clare Estate
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
A man has been taken to a Durban hospital with serious injuries after falling off a cliff in Clare Estate near the M19.
He landed on a ledge, avoiding falling into a quarry below.
Rescue teams from the SAPS Search and Rescue, Rescue Care and IPSS Rescue worked for some time to get him down and across the quarry to safety.
It's unclear what led to the man falling some 100 meters off the cliff .
IPSS's Paul Herbst says they had to use aquatic rescue equipment to get across the water onto the ledge where the man had landed.
It's understood that fishermen had seen the man fall earlier but had to wait three to four hours for rescuers to arrive.
Herbst says it's unclear what the delay was because their response time was less than half an hour to the scene.
