A man has been arrested after allegedly hacking his elderly mother and aunt to death at their home in Umhlabuyalingana, in northern KZN.
In a statement, KwaZulu-Natal Department of Social Development says it's understood that the man accosted his family in the Sonweni village before allegedly turning on his mother with a bush knife on Monday.
It's understood that the 38-year-old then walked to a nearby homestead and allegedly hacked his aunt to death after she tried to intervene.
Social Development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza says the information that led to the attack is still sketchy at the moment but has commended police for their swift response.
