Man killed in Zim election protests

One man has been shot dead after the Zimbabwean army opened fire in central Harare on Wednesday, as protests erupted over alleged fraud in the country's election.

An AFP photographer said the man died at the scene.

Opposition protesters in the capital, Harare are crying foul over the election results.
Protests erupted after the electoral commission announced that the ruling ZANU-PF party had won the majority of seats in parliament.
Earlier, Zimbabwe police fired water cannon and teargas at opposition supporters who had gathered outside the electoral results headquarters in Harare.
They had been brandishing opposition party banners and chanting slogans against ZANU-PF.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa is calling for peace.
"At this crucial time, I call on everyone to desist from provocative declarations and statements. We must all demonstrate patience and maturity, and act in a way that puts our people and their safety first," Mnangagwa said on Twitter.
