Man killed in Toti bakkie, truck crash
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
A driver of a bakkie has died while two of his passengers were left seriously hurt after they were rear-ended by a heavy goods truck on the N2, in Amanzimtoti.
According to Netcare 911 paramedics, the impact was so severe that the bakkie veered off the road, went up a steep embankment before crashing into a support structure of the Umdoni Road bridge.
Spokesperson Chris Botha says according to eyewitnesses the truck driver did not stop.
''Tragically one man died on scene due to the very extensive injuries that he had sustained. One person was in a critical condition and another had sustained serious injuries.
''The critically injured was airlifted through to the hospital with the Red Cross helicopter while the other patient was transported by an ambulance through to a local hospital for further treatment,'' he said.
