Man killed in La Mercy following dispute over alcohol

A murder suspect is recovering in hospital under police guard after an argument ended in tragedy in La Mercy, north of Durban.

It's understood three men had a disagreement about alcohol over the weekend.
Two of them were stabbed - one of them died at the scene, and a second was taken to hospital.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele says the third man fled.
"Police searched the area for the suspect and he was apprehended while hiding in the sugarcane field. The suspect, 23, was arrested and charged for murder and attempted murder.

"It is alleged that the suspect was found with injuries after he was assaulted by community members when he ran and hid," says Mbele.
He'll appear in the Verulam Magistrates Court to also face an attempted murder charge once he's released from hospital.
